We had a guest lecture by Scott Duffy. Scott Duffy is a former student at the university of Chester. He took us through an interactive lecture where we could choose where we wanted the lecture to go. It was good that he wanted the students involvement and thought about his audience. Scott works as creative director specialising in food packaging. He recently did an Ad campaign for Eat real and an animation for a peter rabbit app. He spoke of the difficulty designing for children in mind; exploring more on screen with smaller hands.

He also works along side his partner Luce at Toucan Tango; A screen-printing store. They work on gift and greeting cards for small independent stores. Alongside posters, promotional ads and merchandise for bands. They've visited Europe and America to collaborate with other designers and share their work, which is visually rewarding and stretches creativity beside the day job.

Here are some examples of their work....

Josh talked about his difficulty getting a design job straight out of Uni and his determination after 3 years of working at pizza express. He taught himself coding which got him a foot in the door as a developer that led to a design position. He also took the time to learn how to screen print, and how to split colours. He continued to work on his illustrations in the evenings which led to finding a meeting in Liverpool called the creative process. Although Graphic design isn't really my field I took a lot from this lecture. Especially not to give up on designing, to put myself out there and collaborate with other designers and creatives.
